From Tabloids to Truth,
Hollywood Storyteller Turns His Talents Toward Spiritual Inspiration

Former National Enquirer and People magazine reporter Chris Benguhe worked on some of the biggest stories of the 90s including being one of the first reporters on the scene of the OJ Simpson murder mystery. He was up to his scruples in the glitz and grime, the glamour and greed of Tinseltown reporting on the likes of everyone from Tom Cruise to Brad Pitt to Oprah Winfrey.

Writing for trashy Hollywood tabloids, Chris Benguhe reached his breaking point when assigned to write sensational stories about Columbine massacre victims. Benguhe had reached his limit and quit rather than sensationalize tragedies.

Benguhe now recalls,“It was my come-to-Jesus moment” a reversion to his Catholic faith.

What followed was a 180-degree turnabout that grew into a 17-year career writing a column for the Phoenix diocese newspaper, The Catholic Sun. His column spotlighted compelling stories of ordinary people living their lives in an authentic Catholic way.

Benguhe will be the Catholics@Work speaker on Tuesday, March 13.

For the Sun, Benguhe wrote about people who had suffered tragedies, and how they addressed them in a Catholic way. His column showed how ordinary people reflect their connection with God.

Writing about people from a Catholic perspective was very different from writing for the popular media.

Benguhe soon found that positive stories wouldn’t be published by the general media. So he began assembling them into books.

Today he has five books in print, beginning with “Triumphs of the Heart” and  “Overcoming Life’s 7 Common Tragedies: Opportunities for Discovering God.” They are rich accounts of people who faced adversity and tragedy in their lives and overcame their specific challenge with the help of their Catholic faith.

Benguhe finds that our gifts are “the ones that we are meant to give away to inspire others.”

He’s entertaining, inspiring, witty and comical. You won’t want to miss this uplifting morning of inspiration and bring your friends, they will thank you.    The Tuesday March 13 Catholics at Work program takes place at Crow Canyon Country Club in Danville, beginning at 7 a.m., preceded by Mass at 6:30.
